When bringing a sound booth is not the practical answer.

A commercial sound room can be valuable, but it is not the only way to conduct workplace audiometric testing. For appropriate projects, KSA identifies a candidate room at the facility, evaluates conditions, and uses integrated equipment to monitor background noise throughout the exam.

Quiet-room testing is not appropriate everywhere. Final suitability depends on the actual room and the measured noise conditions during testing.

Monitor

The Benson system measures ambient background noise during the audiogram using integrated sound-level and octave-band monitoring.

Pause and re-present

If noise exceeds the selected permissible level during a test frequency, the system does not simply accept the affected response. Testing adapts and the threshold is presented again when conditions return to range.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95 Appendix D establishes maximum permissible ambient sound levels for audiometric test rooms. Integrated monitoring helps document whether testing conditions remain within the selected limits at test time.

Important: ambient monitoring alone does not guarantee compliance. The employer and testing provider must use appropriate equipment, procedures, calibration, test conditions, interpretation, follow-up, and recordkeeping. If the room cannot remain within acceptable levels, KSA will discuss another room, scheduling period, or testing approach.

Is boothless audiometric testing automatically OSHA compliant?

No. A booth is not the only consideration, and monitoring alone does not guarantee compliance. The test room must remain within applicable ambient-noise limits, and the equipment, procedures, calibration, interpretation and records must also meet the program requirements.

What happens if the room becomes too noisy during a test?

The integrated Benson system identifies excessive ambient noise and prevents an affected threshold from simply being accepted. The test frequency is presented again after conditions return to the selected permissible range.

Can KSA test in a conference room or office?

Possibly. KSA must evaluate the room, its location and actual test-time noise. Some conference rooms or offices work well during controlled periods; others remain too noisy because of HVAC, traffic, phones, doors, conversations or nearby operations.
